A breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammaplasty, is an operation that aims to reduce the size and weight of large breasts and gives them a lift. This procedure is often requested by women who are suffering physically and emotionally due to their breast size. They usually suffer from back and neck pain, chafing, improper posture, and rashes under the breasts. Besides, these women may even have some breathing problems.
During the operation, Dr. Sabry makes precise incisions, removes extra skin, glandular tissue and fat, up the nipple areola complex. Dr. Sabry uses a super wet technique where the breast is filled with saline with special formulations and sharply removes parenchymal tissue rather than using electrocautery. This reduces the operating time and prevents many postoperative complications such as skin or fat necrosis. Typically, in his hands, surgery may take between 2 to 3 hours (sometimes less) and requires administering general anesthesia. As a result, our Dr. Sabry helps patients achieve lighter breasts that are more proportionate to their bodies. Aside from helping them physically, breast reduction can boost self-esteem and confidence.
The Inferior Pedicle Reduction Mammaplasty is a traditional approach to breast reduction surgery. It uses an anchor-shaped incision method. “Pedicle method” refers to a surgical technique in which Dr. Sabry preserves a graft of tissue (known as a pedicle) that includes both nerves and blood vessels supplying the breast. Dr. Sabry removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin. He then moves the nipple and areola to a higher position and reshapes the breast. This is the most common breast reduction surgery.
Also known as the “lollipop” technique, this procedure includes two incisions: one around the edge of the areola and another vertically from the base of the areola to the crease beneath the breast. During this operation, Dr. Sabry makes a lollipop-shaped incision. The scar is significantly smaller than the more traditional Anchor Scar. Dr. Sabry has mastered this technique and performs the majority of his breast reductions using this technique, unlike his peers.
The first step of this journey is a breast reduction consultation with Dr. Sabry. During the first meeting, he listens to the patient’s concerns and goals and analyzes their health history.
Based on your history and physical exam, Dr. Sabry will have a thorough discussion regarding technique, most often he employs the” medial pedicle” type which results in a Lollipop-incision.
Pre-operative photographs are a must, as part of evaluation process and comparison to postop results. It is also a necessity for patients who may qualify for insurance approval. Before having any cosmetic surgery, the patient must undergo some tests. These may include blood work, a mammogram, and an EKG.
Dr. Sabry analyzes these results and concludes whether it is safe for the patient to proceed with the operation.
After the operation, it’s essential for patients to stay for some hours at our comfortable facility so we can oversee their initial recovery. Most of them are able to leave later that day. Feeling some post-op pain and discomfort is expected. That’s why Dr. Sabry may prescribe some appropriate medication and care to make the recovery process as comfortable as possible.
The first month after breast reduction surgery is crucial for healing. Patients must wear a compression garment or a special post-surgical bra to support their breasts. It can help reduce swelling and help incisions heal properly. Some patients may also take antibiotics to prevent infection.
Sutures are usually made of dissolvable material and do not need to be taken out. However, any sterile strips applied to incisions are usually removed one week later. We recommend that patients steer clear of exercise, sport, and exposure to extreme heat for at least 14 days afterward. This way, they can reduce their chances of developing complications.
While every individual’s recovery process is unique, it usually takes three to four months. During this time, the patient’s breasts settle into their new shape, and they can see the final result. They may understand that this process is gradual, resulting in a body shape that feels more natural and balanced.
Excessive breast size can result in considerable physical pain discomfort, particularly impacting the neck and back. The extra weight can put a strain on the muscles and ligaments, leading to ongoing pain and incorrect posture. In the long run, these physical strains can contribute to more severe musculoskeletal issues, significantly affecting an individual’s quality of life and everyday activities. Reducing breast size can assist in alleviating these issues and reducing pain and discomfort.
If a woman’s breasts are overly large, she may experience neck, back, and shoulder pain that can make it difficult to perform daily tasks. These physical symptoms strongly suggest the potential benefits of breast reduction surgery.
Having large breasts also may cause poor posture and even skeletal malformation. Reducing breast size can help mitigate these problems.
Chafing and rashes beneath the breasts can be uncomfortable for women who have larger breasts. If they reduce their size, however, these skin irritations may decrease considerably.
Many females experience feelings of self-consciousness or unhappiness due to having abnormally large breasts. This way, this surgery can help them get rid of this emotional distress.
This problem is one of the main prerequisites for breast reduction. Therefore, women who decide to undergo this surgery can achieve better symmetry and balance.
