Acne Treatment

Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States. Acne is best treated with a combination of remedies which may include some or all of the following: medical grade skin care, Rx acne medications, chemical peels and exfoliation procedures , and laser procedures.

Acne may be mild (few, occasional pimples), moderate (inflammatory papules), or severe (nodules and cysts). Your treatment approach will depend on the severity of the condition. Large cystic acne is best treated with injections and medications. Microcystic acne responds well to lasers in combination with other recommended treatment modalities.

Acne Treatment

Treating proactively is highly recommended. Letting acne runs its course can result in permanent damage:

Permanent dark spots and scars that are hidden by the lesions will show up on the skin as acne clears.

Treating and reducing acne boosts self-esteem.
Many effective treatment modalities are available, no excuses.

Laser treatment

Lasers and blue light treatments work on the premise of causing compounds called porphyrins to damage and kill the p-acnes bacteria. Laser treatment may also reduce sebum levels. Laser treatments are usually done in a series of three sessions, about a month apart, depending on the severity of the condition. Since acne bacteria recolonize quickly it is very important to implement a treatment plan that includes medical grade skincare for at home use and possibly Rx medication.

Chemical Peels

The p-acnes bacteria thrive in an oxygen-deprived environment, so decongestion of the pores is important. Chemical peels are acids which are applied to the skin, usually in a series, with strengths and intervals that are appropriate for the patient’s skin type and tolerances. These acids chemically exfoliate the top layers of skin. The exfoliation decongests the pores while also signaling the cells inside the skin to reproduce more rapidly. This process helps speed skin turnover which can also prevent pores from becoming clogged. In some instances chemical peels are used to help lessen the appearance of acne scars.

Studies show about 45-50% reduction in acne lesions after a series of 4-6 peels. Most chemical peel patients report “fair to good” results which tend to last for 1-2 months. Again, since acne bacteria recolonize quickly, it is important to implement a treatment plan that includes medical grade skincare for home use, and possibly Rx medication.
Types of peels

HydraFacial MD

Acne is not exclusive to teenagers; adult onset acne is becoming more and more prevalent, and can be particularly troubling for professional men and women. Our patients find that the HydraFacial™ skin treatment can be as effective in treating adult acne and oily skin as it is in promoting healthier, younger-looking skin.
The HydraFacial resurfacing procedure provides cleansing, exfoliation, extractions and hydration, while simultaneously infusing the skin with antioxidants, peptides and Hyaluronic acid. The treatment can take as little as 15 minutes if your schedule demands a quick visit.
Each treatment uses a series of HydroPeel® tips with multiple peeling edges to exfoliate the skin several times in each pass. This multi-pass technique yields better, more even results. The unique suction design creates a vortex effect to easily dislodge and remove impurities while simultaneously introducing hydrating solutions with potent antioxidants into the skin.
The HydraFacial is a noninvasive, nonsurgical procedure that can help reduce the problems of acne and oily skin with no discomfort or downtime. Continued treatments once a month are recommended to maintain optimal results. In addition to HyrdaFacial MD treatments, we may suggest chemical peels, or laser treatments to address scarring, hyperpigmentation or rough texture. Medical grade skincare is advised for home use to maintain results and minimize the potential for acne flare ups.
