What is a Breast Lift Surgery?

A breast lift, medically known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes the breasts by surgically reducing loose skin and repositioning the breast tissue and nipple-areola complex. Dr. Sabry’s goal is to restore a firmer, more youthful breast contour while improving symmetry and nipple position.
A breast lift does not focus on adding volume. Unlike breast augmentation, a breast lift addresses sagging and skin laxity. That said, a lift can be combined with implants or fat transfer if additional fullness is desired.
Dr. Sabry uses precise incisions and a thoughtful surgical plan to reshape the breast while preserving natural proportions. The result is a lifted, more balanced appearance that enhances your existing contours.

Ideal Candidates for Breast Lift in NYC Banner

Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift in NYC?

You may be a good candidate for breast lift surgery if your breasts have lost firmness or sit lower on the chest than you’d like. Many patients seek a lift after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or as part of natural aging.
Common reasons patients consider a breast lift include:

When you meet with Dr. Sabry, he will consider your health history, anatomy, goals, and concerns to see if breast lift surgery is the right call. If surgery is not in your best interest, Dr. Sabry will tell you so. We firmly believe honesty and restraint are essential to good outcomes.

Dr. Sabry’s Breast Lift Technique & Surgical Philosophy

Dr. Sabry approaches breast lift surgery with the same principles that guide all his work: precision, thoughtfulness, and individualized planning.
He uses modern lifting techniques tailored to each patient’s anatomy, which may include a vertical or modified incision pattern depending on the degree of lift required. His focus is on reshaping the breast tissue internally to achieve durable, natural-looking results.

Dr. Sabry takes a conservative approach to surgery. He removes only what is necessary and reshapes thoughtfully, rather than aggressively. If a subtle lift will achieve your goals, that’s what he recommends. If a more involved correction is necessary, he will explain why and walk you through the reasoning.

No two breast lifts are the same, and our team will customize your surgical plan to your body.

Breast Lift Techniques

Dr. Sabry will choose the most appropriate technique for each patient to ensure there is less scarring and better results. In general, you will have one of the following incision patterns:

Donut Lift
(Concentric mastopexy)

This technique involves two circular incisions around the areola. A doughnut-shaped area of skin is removed, and the incisions are sutured together, resulting in a fuller breast appearance. Dr Sabry uses a permanent suture and a special design to ensure longevity of the shape. This unique procedure, however, is only applicable to those with small to moderate sized breasts.

Crescent Lift
(Periareolar mastopexy)

This method limits the scar to the top part of the areola. While it provides minimal lift on its own, it can be useful in conjunction with breast augmentation to slightly raise nipple position.

Lollipop Lift
(Short scar mastopexy)

The lollipop lift combines an incision around the areola with a vertical incision extending to the breast fold, resulting in a lollipop-shaped scar. This is Dr. Sabry’s go-to procedure for moderate to large breasts.

Ancho Lift (Inverted-T scar mastopexy)

Ideal for larger breasts, this method involves incisions around the nipple, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the crease, forming an anchor shape. As Dr. Sabry prefers smaller scars, most of his lifts are either a periareolar or a lollipop type.

Breast Lift Surgery Day: What to Expect

On the day of surgery, you’ll arrive approximately 90 minutes early at our in-office QUAD-A accredited operating suite. Our team and anesthesia staff will review everything with you to ensure safety and comfort before we begin.

Anesthesia & Patient Comfort

Your procedure begins with careful attention to comfort and safety. In most cases, general anesthesia is used so you remain fully asleep throughout surgery. This allows the operation to proceed smoothly and without discomfort, while giving Dr. Sabry the controlled environment needed to perform each step with accuracy and focus.

Strategic Incision Planning

After anesthesia is in effect, Dr. Sabry creates the incisions that were thoughtfully planned during your consultation. These incision patterns are selected based on your breast anatomy, skin quality, amount of lift required, and surgical plan. Each approach is customized to achieve optimal shaping while keeping scarring as limited and well-placed as possible.

Structural Breast Reshaping

As part of restoring proper breast proportions, the nipple-areola complex is carefully moved to a higher, more balanced position on the breast mound. If the areolas have become stretched over time, their size can also be refined by removing a small amount of surrounding skin. This step helps ensure that the nipple position aligns harmoniously with the newly shaped breast.

Skin Redraping & Contour Refinement

Once the breast tissue and nipple position are finalized, the remaining skin is gently tightened and redraped over the new contour. This process supports the internal lift and contributes to a smooth, natural breast appearance. Careful skin handling at this stage plays an important role in long-term shape and aesthetic quality.

Incision Closure

To complete the procedure, the incisions are closed in multiple layers to support healing and maintain the newly created shape. Dr. Sabry uses refined closure techniques tailored to your needs, which may include sutures within the breast tissue and specialized skin closure methods. This thoughtful approach promotes proper healing and helps reduce the appearance of scars over time.

After surgery, you’ll recover in our office under the care of a PACU nurse until you’re fully awake and cleared for discharge. You’ll go home the same day with printed post-op instructions that we review with you and your escort.

Breast Lift Recovery & Follow-Up Care at Murray Hill Plastic Surgery

Recovery after a breast lift is generally well tolerated, and most patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable the healing process feels. While some soreness and tightness are expected, discomfort is typically mild to moderate and improves steadily over the first several days.

Our aftercare is personal and proactive and includes:

During the immediate post-operative period, you may notice tenderness or pressure along the incision lines, which is usually well controlled with oral pain medication. If your breast lift is combined with implants, discomfort may be slightly more noticeable during the first 48 hours due to muscle involvement, but this typically resolves quickly.

For support and comfort, you’ll wear a simple, front-opening surgical bra during the first week. After that, most patients can transition to regular bras, including those with underwires, as advised. Dr. Sabry typically uses dissolvable sutures, so suture removal is not required.

Most patients return to non-physical work within 1 week. Light daily activities can resume at that time, while heavy lifting and strenuous movement should be avoided for several weeks. Driving is generally discouraged for the first 2 weeks. Low-impact cardiovascular exercise can usually begin around the 2-week mark, with a gradual return to more vigorous activity by about 6 weeks.

You will be followed closely, personally, and consistently throughout your recovery. Because every patient heals differently, it’s important to follow Dr. Sabry’s specific post-operative instructions to ensure the safest healing process and the best possible outcome from your breast lift.

Insurance

While insurance rarely covers plastic surgery as its typically cosmetic, exceptions exist for documented medical necessity like chronic skin infections, rashes, or functional impairment. When a breast lift is included as part of a post-bariatric surgery treatment plan, patients may obtain coverage with extensive documentation proving medical need. Pre-authorization and appeals are often required, depending on your particular insurance plan.

During your consultation, Dr. Sabry will discuss whether your breast lift may be covered by insurance.

Scars depend on the technique used. Dr. Sabry places incisions carefully and provides scar-care guidance to support optimal healing.
